Men's
suits may be sub-classified into formal suits, lounge suits,
casual suits and blazer suits. Here are some tips on wearing
a suit.
A suit should go together with a shirt and a necktie or a bow
tie on formal occasions. The collar and sleeves of the shirt
should be well matched with those of the suit and 1.5 or 2cm
longer than those of the latter in order to prevent any wearing
damage or stain on the suit. In addition, the lower part of
the shirt must be kept inside the pants.
The collar
and lapel are such important parts of the suit that the collar
of a shirt and the width of a tie should be in harmony with
them. It is not appropriate to wear a small-lapel suit along
with a wider-point-collar shirt or a broad tie. Usually the
formal suit is so perfectly shaped and matched that it should
just fit you well when the purchase is made. Any loose suit
should be avoided. No heavy and thick clothes should be worn
inside a suit, such as a sweater. If the weather is cold, a
Chesterfield coat is the ideal overcoat to accompany a formal
suit.
For a single-breasted
suit, the top button should normally be done up, and left open
when the suit wearer sits down. Nevertheless, the buttons of
a double-breasted suit should never be all unfastened at any
time. At least one button should remain fastened whenever you
are walking around or lounging comfortably in a sofa.
In order to keep
a harmonious elegance, some attention should be paid to details
in selecting the tie, belt, pants and leather shoes. Fancy hose
and white socks are inappropriate with a suit and the color
of the shoes should match that of the suit. Last but not least,
make sure that the label sewn on the cuff is removed
